The dwindling reserves of fossil fuels not only results in an effort to make more use of renewable energies, but also to reduce our current energy needs. European and national decision-making bodies have set ambitious targets in this area. For example the "20-20-20" goal, which aims at reducing greenhouse gases by 20% and to increase the share of renewable energies and energy efficiency by 20% in 2020. To achieve this goal a broadly introduction of smart metering systems is essential.Laws and regulations in the area of smart metering in Europe have led to the Wireless M-Bus standard (EN 13757). Within this standard the technical requirements for wireless metering systems are defined.
iM871A - Wireless M-Bus module
In close co-operation with Silicon Laboratories Inc. IMST GmbH has developed the Wireless M-Bus Module iM871A. The module offers a cost-effective RF solution for smart metering applications connecting water, heat, electricity and gas meters with data concentrators in the 868 MHz frequency band.
