ZigBee™ is an open and globally deployable communications standard for the implementation of Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN).
ZigBee™ is primarily used in wireless systems where low power consumption is essential. Its applications include wireless sensor networks, building automation, and industrial monitoring and control systems.
The actual ZigBee™ standard – defined by the ZigBee™ Alliance – only specifies the network and application layer. The wireless standard comes into existence in combination with the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, which specifies the physical layer and media access control layer.
The latest version from 2007 provides two stack profiles „ZigBee“ und „ZigBee PRO“. “PRO” comes along with enhancements in the area of addressing and network management and therefore is more suited for applications in complex networks or with mobile nodes.
IMST GmbH as a member of the ZigBee Alliance and member of the „Texas Instruments Low-Power RF Developer Network Program“ has many years of experience in applications using the ZigBee stack of Texas Intruments. The latest product of IMST GmbH, the iM222A RF module is compliant to IEEE802.15.4 and offers a stable and easy to use interface to the ZigBee functionalities provided by the Z-stack of Texas Instruments.iM222A – ZigBee Network Processor
The iM222A is a compact, energy-efficient IEEE802.15.4 module operating in the 2.4 GHz ISM frequency band. The module has a build in µController and comes along with a pre-programmed firmware based on the Z-stack from Texas Instruments. It can be easily integrated in existing ZigBee applications. Besides ZigBee it is also possible to implement 6LoWPAN, RF4CE or proprietary applications.
